A little history on Statesville Ave.

Recently we came across an article about Charlotte’s top 5 war history sites. I like history and have always noticed the Art Deco detail of the old Rite Aide building on Statesville Ave. Turns out, there’s a story. Tom Hanchett staff historian at the Levine Museum of the New South, put together a top war history sites of Charlotte. One of the five is the Hercules Industrial Park (now Rite Aide distribution), site of Henry Ford’s assembly for Model T cars. It served as a Quartermaster Depot during World War II, a warehouse for military supplies.  Afterward, Cold War era Hercules missiles were made here. For the complete article, click here:
