New Charlotte Fire Department HQ opens

A ribbon cutting happened Saturday, as Charlotte celebrated the opening of only its second fire department headquarters in its history.
Dozens were on hand to enjoy the new $16 million building located right down from Brightwalk on Statesville Ave. The first headquarters was built in 2925 near the old city hall and came down in 1991. Since then the department has not had a permanent home until now. The building also has on display some of its oldest fire trucks, some dating back more than 130 years.
