Neighbors: The Hebrew Cemetery

Right down from Brightwalk lies the Hebrew Cemetery. Since 1867, the cemetery has been part of Charlotte’s history and has been restored in recently years. Currently, they’re undergoing an expansion of the 11 acre trek along Statesville Ave. On September 23, 2012, the Hebrew Cemetery Association broke ground on the construction of a beautiful Memorial Building.

The Memorial Building will provide space for funerals, memorials, meetings or luncheons for up to 40, and restrooms. The former White Marble Ark of Temple Beth El will find a permanent home in the building’s Mindy Ellen Levine Chapel. The walls are rising, and the building is taking shape. Completion is expected this fall. You can see the progress as you come to the main entrance of Brightwalk.
